NextGen Reporting Now Working with 8 of the 10 Largest Insurance Companies

April 24th, 2013

Philadelphia, PA – After three years of triple-digit growth, NextGen Reporting is pleased to announce that it is now providing deposition services to eight of the top ten largest insurance companies. NextGen attributes its growth to a focus on helping corporations, insurance companies and law firms save many millions on the costs associated with wasted time and unnecessary travel. Insurance companies especially value how NextGen gives their claims professionals free deposition videos to improve their claims decisions.

“NextGen Reporting’s unique approach to the deposition process has been a game changer for our clients,” said Ed Kerpius, Vice President at NextGen Reporting. “We’ve given them the ability to decide which depositions they attend in person and which they attend remotely. By eliminating the wasted time and unnecessary expense, they can handle more cases well and provide a better return to their shareholders.”

In addition to depositions, NextGen routinely connects attorneys and witnesses to trials, arbitrations and hearings through video streaming and videoconferencing. This approach saves clients on transporting expert witnesses, enabled infirm witnesses to appear, and has allowed corporate clients to watch courtroom proceedings from their offices.

“My client was delighted that the expert was able to testify despite the weather,” said Steve Cotton, Esq. from Wipf & Cotton in Wagoner, ND whose expert witness testified remotely due to a snow storm. “He looked and sounded just like he was in the courtroom with us, and that made a big difference for the judge and jury.”

NextGen Reporting Profiled in oDesk News Article

March 13th, 2013

oDesk, a leader in remote work, recently posted an article about developments in remote legal technologies. NextGen Reporting was profiled as a leader of remote depositions and trials:

What would have been a major headache several years ago has become a relatively simple matter thanks to online conferencing technology and an innovative court reporting company, NextGen Reporting. Because of NextGen’s investment in customized video conferencing technology that uses military-grade security, they were able to create a secure video link between the doctor and the courtroom using the conferencing equipment already installed there.

The article covered developments in the broader market, both in depositions and in courtrooms as a natural development of technology and the growing acceptance of remote participation.

A Pennsylvania jury awarded one family $109 million in a wrongful death verdict, after a woman was electrocuted for 20 minutes while waiting for utility crews to shut off the power from a fallen utility line. NextGen Reporting assisted during this trial by setting up a war room, equipping the courtroom with hi-res display equipment, and presenting key evidence for the judge and jury.

“NextGen has done outstanding trial work for me, including in my recent $109 million verdict in the falling power line case,” said Shanin Specter, founding partner of Kline & Specter. NextGen Reporting has been honored to work on several cases for Kline & Specter over the past year.

In addition to providing traditional trial presentation services, NextGen Reporting also connects remote witnesses to courtrooms all over the country. To learn more about NextGen Reporting trial services, call 888.267.1200 or email info@nextgenreporting.com.

Using Video Streaming to Comply With Delaware Chancery Rules

February 28th, 2013

As the leading provider of remote deposition services, we have clients from all over the country share ways that our offerings can assist them. Recently, clients of our Wilmington office have been talking about the new rules from the recently-updated DE Court of Chancery Guidelines which state in part …

“The concept of local counsel whose role is limited to administrative or ministerial matters has no place in the Court of Chancery. The Delaware lawyers who appear in a case are responsible to the Court for the case and its presentation.”

Our clients in Delaware have determined that our services will help them comply with these new rules. By enabling remote participants to “attend” a deposition through secure streaming video, they can assist co-counsel while eliminating the travel to many depositions. In addition to providing the court reporter and videographer on a deposition, we enable our clients to connect to these depositions through their computer, iPad or videoconference endpoint.

Remote Trial Appearance In Spite of the Snow

February 26th, 2013

A few weeks ago, Kirk Thibault, Ph.D. was circling above Sioux Falls on his way to testify in a trial in Bon Homme County, South Dakota. Unfortunately, snow kept his plane from landing and he was forced to fly back home to Philadelphia.

The court expected him to testify the next day, and there was no way for him to be there. At 4 pm, the judge instructed counsel to contact NextGen Reporting to arrange for Dr. Thibault to appear in the courtroom via videoconferencing the next morning at 9 am. NextGen made it happen.

“My client was delighted that the expert was able to testify despite the weather,” said Steve Cotton, Esq. from Wipf & Cotton. “He looked and sounded just like he was in the courtroom with us, and that made a big difference for the judge and jury.”

Dr. Thibault valued the service so much that he is now requesting that many of his distant trial appearances be done by NextGen’s remote videoconferencing service. “It just makes all the sense in the world. It’s better for me, and it’s better for my clients.” Remote trial appearances are becoming more common across the country due to the savings in time and money.
